Crochet Your Own Yoda Inspired Brooch

CrocheT Your Own Yoda Inspired BroochOver the years, I’ve made Gryffindor scarves, Rose Tyler arm warmers, and a Scotty hat. One of the best things about being a member of a fandom for me is getting to wear my love of it on my sleeve (or lapel as it were).

I’ve been wanting to try my hand at crocheting brooches for a little while now, and I thought I might as well use my love of Star Wars as a dipping in point.

I whipped up this brooch inspired by Yoda in less time than it would take me to watch half of a Star Wars movie and love how adorably kawaii it looks on a sweater.

I wrote out the pattern in case anyone else would like to make their very own Yoda Brooch. It’s a relatively easy and speedy project–perfect for a beginner or stash-buster project.

Supplies

  • F (3.75mm) Hook
  • Worsted Weight Green Acrylic Yarn
  • Worsted Weight Black Acrylic Yarn
  • Polyester Fiber Fill
  • One 1.5 Inch Pin Back

Helpful Hints ~ For the green yarn, I recommend using Loops & Threads Impeccable Yarn in “Grass.” It’s the color I use for all my Yoda projects. I used Red Heart’s black yarn but really any worsted weight acrylic will do.

Step One ~ Sew pin back to the “Back” piece. You can use thread or yarn or, if you bought a self-adhesive pin back, just stick it in place.

Step Two ~ Weave in all ends–EXCEPT the long tail left from the “Front” piece.

Step Three ~ Sandwich the non-pointy ends of your ears between wrong sides of the “Front” and “Back” pieces. It’s easiest, at this point, to pin everything into place to keep it from moving when you stitch it together. The ears should be on opposite sides of the head and an equal distance apart on both on the top and bottom of Yoda’s head. (At this point, the head should look basically Yoda-shaped.)

Step Four ~ Using the remaining long tail, stitch all of the pieces together but leave a small opening at the end.

Step Five ~ Stuff head with polyester fiber fill to give it a slightly 3-D look and finish stitching Yoda closed. Tie off the thread and weave in end.

Step Six ~ Stitch on eyes using black yarn.

Step Seven ~ Put on your Yoda Brooch because he’s all finished!

If you have any questions about this Yoda pattern, just let me know. Also, if I were to write up some more brooch patterns, are there any characters or fandoms you’d like to see?
