Cinema at the Square: Raiders of the Lost Ark

This week, the Playhouse Square had a free showing of Raiders of the Lost Ark at the Palace Theater so, of course, I was there rocking my Raiders shirt.

The Palace Theater is this gorgeous old-timey place with chandeliers, a domed ceiling, and a swanky balcony. I’ve never been in this particular theater before (the Cleveland Theater District is a pretty decent size all things considering), and I absolutely loved it. There’s just something so old Hollywood about it all.

I had so much fun. There was a sing-a-long and a couple Bugs Bunny cartoons before the movie played. (They also had an organ player setting the mood with Phantom of the Opera music as people came in!)  When the movie finally started up, it just felt so amazing to see Raiders of the Lost Ark on the big screen for the first time.

There were tons of people there, and you could feel the reverberations of people laughing and clapping at all of the classic scenes. What a blast! I would love to see one (or all) of the Star Wars films like this. The atmosphere is just perfect.

I definitely want to go back to Playhouse’s Cinema on the Square series.  It’s over for this year, but it’s a yearly summer thing that the Playhouse puts on so I hope to return next year.

*Preemptively crosses fingers for showing of A New Hope.*

  1. Looks like such an amazing experience! I attended an Indiana Jones marathon last year, but it was in a standard (yet pretty awesome) AMC Theatre. I would love to attend a classic cinema like the Playhouse Square one day. 🙂
